Automatic and semiautomatic lens edgers

Spectacle lens processing machines are used in the equipment of every optical workshop. They are diverse in modifications, technical capabilities, service life, price parameters. Subdivided into four groups:

1. Semi-automatic machines with two and three circles: a relay or electronic cycle control system is provided, but the functionality is limited to clamping and glass processing. The template used in shaping is made on separate equipment.

2. Semi-automatic machines with three and four circles: they also process lenses according to a template, but perform three functions (clamping, processing, control of the processed lens). Lens feeding, as in the first case, is done manually.

3. Machine tools with four wheels, which, in addition to the three basic ones, realize additional functions, significantly reducing the processing time. They work without a template, focusing on the parameters set for the form reader. The processor controls the grinding force, positioning accuracy of the facet, and carries out preliminary drawing of the contour.

4. The new generation automated machine tools are electronically controlled mini production stations. They can handle any lenses for all types of frames. They combine the functions of shape sensing, centering and locking, automatically adjusting the force of pressure on the lens, cutting force and other processing parameters.

The machines of the first and second groups are simple, reliable and durable, but the process of processing the lenses takes too long due to the large number of manual operations and the need for auxiliary processes. Installations of the new generation are the most functional and productive, they reduce the duration of operations several times.

The task of the wizard comes down to loading lenses / frames into the device, choosing the desired function, setting the processing parameters - the machine does the rest on its own.

Most machine tools today have enough cutting speed, wheel grit and diamond concentration to quickly sharpen a lens. The main thing worth paying attention to is the degree of automation, the availability of accuracy control functions, ease of use and the time spent on auxiliary operations
